Language Commissioner, Mr. Slavisa Mladenović and Mr. Shaban Osmanaj, the acting Head of Inspectors, held a meeting to discuss the complaints addressed to the Office of the Language Commissioner regarding the use of official languages in the medicine packaging and their leaflets that are present in the market.

The Language Commissioner voiced his concern about the lack of Albanian and Serbian language in medicine packaging and instructions, which makes it impossible for citizens to be informed in the official languages about the medicines and products they use, and as a result violates their language rights as constitutional and legal rights.

The Chief Inspector from the Inspectorate clarified that this issue has been addressed, and several cases have been raised regarding the use of official languages in medicines and other pharmaceutical products that are present in our market. Mr. Shabanaj further on introduced the procedure through which medicines that are traded in Kosovo pass through, where there is no room for omissions or abuses in the fulfillment of the rules set out in AI 01/2015.

The abovementioned institutions will continue the cooperation, and will coordinate the measures to be taken in cases where the use of official languages is not in accordance with the legislation in force.

Office of the Language Commissioner was established in April 2012 under auspices of the  Office of the Prime Minister, pursuant to Regulation br.07/2012. The Office is mandated to oversee the implementation of the law on languages, works with institutions to improve the implementation of the law and promote and protect the right on the use of the language of all communities in Kosovo.
